Gears of War 4 Review

Gears of War 4 Review

When I hear the words Gears of War I can only think back to November 7th, 2006 when I was forced to buy Gears of War from my long time buddy and colleague Mak G. I was not one for any shoot em type games other then Counter-Strike at the time but I can only thank Mak G for opening my eyes to such a glorious game! Gears of War back in 2006 looked fantastic on the 360 and to this day is one of the best looking video games ever released on the 360. Graphics were mind blowing and the gameplay was just fantastic. Thank you Cliffy B! Fast forward to 2016 and I am now reviewing Gears of War 4. Let’s start this off by saying HOLY SHIT!!! This game looks breathtaking and the visuals just blow you away. I will try my best not to add any spoilers to this review because you need to play this game for yourself to enjoy it. Gear of War 4 is set 25 years after the original 3 games. You are Marcus Fenix’s son JD and you are accompanied by your two friends Kait and Del. Not to mention old man Marcus is in this game as well if you haven’t seen the trailers. This game brings back memories of how amazing the gameplay and story telling of Gears really is. Although this is a new game in the franchise it still stays close to its roots THANK GOD! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? In Gears of War 4 you are battling two new enemies. First you have The Swarm and then you have the DeeBee’s. The DeeBee’s are very interesting considering they are a reboot enemy which was built by Minisiter Jinn to help with security. Well I guess that didn’t work out to well. It’s great to see new enemies other then the locust in a Gears game and both styles of the new enemies are different, you will need to quickly think of tactics to defeat them. A few enemies from both sides are The Swarm
  • Drones
  • Juvies
  • Pouncers
DeeBee’s
  • Shepherds
  • DR-1
  • Tracker
  • Guardian’s
Along side the new enemies we have some pretty sweet new weapons as well I won’t spoil them for you except for one because this Buzzsaw is fucking awesome!! A gun that shoots saw blades! How bad ass is that?! Another standout weapon is the DeeBee’s rifle called the Embar. Check out the list of all weapons below. Weapons List
  • Boomshot
  • Dropshot
  • Embar
  • Enforcer
  • Gnasher
  • Hammerburst
  • Lancer
  • Longshot
  • Markza
  • Overkill
  • Retro Lancer
  • Torgue Bow
  • Boltok Pistol
  • Snub Pistol
  • Buzzkill
  • Mulchers
  • Rocket Launchers
  • Chaingun
gears-of-war-4-new-weapon   Gears 4 campaign was pretty awesome and reminded me previous titles like Gears 1 and 2. I really did love the variety of weapons you are able to use during the campaign and not to mention the amazing prolouge which brought back some awesome memories of past games. RIP DOM :(. For the campaign, you are looking at 5 Acts which have varied chapters in them as well. The game should roughly take you around 8-10 hours to complete depending on how many pee breaks you may take or in my case how many times I need to change my new borns diaper :). I won’t spoil any details on the campaign but once again the story line is fantastic and I love the voice actors that played main characters in this game. Enjoy the story with a friend in split screen or even jump on COOP if you wish, Or just be a loner like my self and play alone. marcus-fenix-gog-4-gamers   Multiplayer Ahhhhh what can I say, thank you for giving us a great multiplayer on top of an already amazing game through the campaign. Now after playing the beta I was a little upset because it didnt have that old school Gears of War feel but after playing the full version online I am very impressed. We have already logged a ton of hours into the multiplayer and we are loving some of the new modes like Dodgeball and Arms Race. Let’s take a closer look below at the game modes in Gears of War 4 Core Game Modes
  • Team Deathmatch – Kill or be killed, that’s the name of the game here.
  • Dodgeball – In this game type, you only have 1 life, but anytime someone on the enemy team dies, you are revived. The only way to win is to wipe out the whole team entirely!
  • King of the Hill – This is your standard KotH but with a twist, there are several hills and whomever captures the most will win.
  • Arms Race – You and your enemies start with very weak guns. Every three kills gets your team a slightly better weapon. The first team to get kills with every weapon, wins.
  • Guardian – Each team has 1 leader. So long as the leader is alive, they can respawn their team. Kill the leader, then kill the team to win.
  • Warzone – This is like Team Deathmatch, but you only have one life.
Competitive Modes
  • Escalation – Three rings are placed on the map. Capture all three to instantly win, or hold a couple to build up points and try to win that way.
  • Execution- A Team Deathmatch variant, where you have one life and can only get kills with executions.
Horde Mode 3.0 So Horde mode is back and is totally fucking insane!!! They really beefed this up with areas to level up and unlock cards in the customization area. You can also unlock skills to help you gain an advantage as well. Here is a list of the classes in Horde Mode 3.0 and all come with various weapons and perks to unlock as well as help your team through the levels of Horde.
  • Engineer
  • Soldier
  • Sniper
  • Heavy
  • Scout
Fabricator You also gain access to the fabricator which will help you build weapons as well as this is your base during Horde mode and will act as a respawn point for downed allies.   Gears Of War 4 brings me back to my younger days when I was addicted to Gears of War. I loved every moment I have played so far in this game and will continue to play it going forward. The campaign was fantastic and with the added game modes in mulitplayer plus the crazy Horde Mode this game is a must have for any fan of the series! Get those Gnashers rocking and the boomshots flying people! Cheers Folks!!
