Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn Review

So it’s finally here! The remake that everyone is…. ummm…. not waiting for has arrived! Just because the SNES version is rated one of the worst games that was released for the system doesn’t mean it can’t be remade. I got the game yesterday to try out and I’m just going to full out say it. I actually like it. There is one main objective in the game and that’s to avenge your master. Shaq just seems to make it to each location but it doesn’t really explain how he knew to go there. He does however “quickly reads” a plane manual and is somehow able to fly it! I was raised on the side scrolling 2-D games, and this one does bring back memories. There really isn’t much to the game, you mostly just button mash the hit button and occasionally hit the special buttons. The farther you progress you encounter enemies that need a special move to stun them, but even then they don’t get stunned for too long and just keep attacking you. Boss battles are kind of a joke, all you do is run around mostly and you are given items around the area to even throw at them, so if you are good at avoiding them you can just throw stuff continuously, because they do always re spawn back to throw again. The graphics are as simple as they get for a game. Cartoon characters with goofy dialogue and high pitched voices. It seems that they give the men henchmen a rather homophobic look which I don’t agree with at all. It seems like they tried to make light of the bad guys but taken in bad taste. The audio on this game is absolutely a joke. Hearing cheesy rap songs by Shaq, and when some of the bosses talk it makes me just burst out laughing. I know that this game isn’t meant to be taken seriously at all but it seems like they just threw it all together and tried to make people laugh (in which it does for me). But over all if you like side scroller games and don’t care too much that it’s Shaq, I say go out and buy it. It’s not as much as a normal game and is a good time filler if you can’t decide what game to get.   Cheers everyone,
