Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Review

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Review

Welcome, and here we go again with another PC review from another much anticipated game (at least in my opinion). Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, with a name like that its gotta be good, right ? Wrong, dead wrong. I am not one to just bash a game or say game is not good without good reason, and this game has given me great reasons not to like it and few reasons to enjoy it. The development team from Capcom bring us another game in the Chronicles of this VS series; but for so many different reasons this game failed to deliver what we’ve all been asking for since MvsC2 (which is pretty much give us another MvsC2). As I wrote this article I thought about the reasons why I didn’t enjoy this game. The thing is with series games coming from a place of world wide success is, you are unfortunately doomed to comparison, especially in this case where its predecessors have historically garnered great success and appreciation among the following. This game was no exception just like Marvel vs Capcom 3 was no exception. I turned on the game already looking for comparisons on how it differed from MvsC2; I did not have to look far. Like most fighting games, the first thing I do is play a few arcade matches to get a feel for the game. To my shock was the smallest roster selection I have seen since the very first game; further more Capcom had decided to remove fan favorite characters in the interest of introducing new ones. I’m not against that idea but at this point in gaming, I just cant understand why they can not deliver on the massive roster  we have all wanted. I begrudgingly played a few more arcade matches after being deflated by the roster size and surprisingly the game play is smooth, but the graphics are stunning. However its now a two man team which is horrible but an easy adjustment; a new feature was included called the “infinity gem” which is while cheese, a nice feature to add a element of intensity to the game. The move list per character varies in visuals and effectiveness, the assists are also toned down but another familiar feature. After getting familiar with the controls and the characters, I decided to play the story mode to see if there was a plot and half decent story telling. Yes and no, for me while the story is playable, it just wasn’t captivating. I easily turned off the game without that desire to know how the story ends. The real joy that came out of this game for me was the multi-player mode. I invited a friend of mine to come over and play the game with me. Most friends in my circle that i do play fighting games with come from a history with fighting games, especially marvel vs capcom. When you play this game against another human player and it is competitive, this game will take you back to the old days of MvsC2 and the familiar feeling inside that made you love the franchise. Playing this game against a friend and other human players made the value of this game increase both and replay and enjoyment. I personally enjoy it more when I invite some friends over to hang out and we do ‘winner goes on’. After all that, I suppose that the natural question is; How is the game ? Well let’s dive in:   Pros: *Graphics *Gameplay *Multiplayer   Cons: *Limited roster *Dialed down squad size *Replay value feels low *Kind of boring playing alone *Roster increase via PAID DLC   Conclusion: While Marvel vs Capcom Infinite boast pros and cons, to me it just doesn’t feel like a classic or like that old mvsc feeling. I would hate to have to invite a friend over every time I wanted to enjoy my game. Buy this game only on sale, like a fire sale or going out of business sale; but that is my opinion.   I did get a chance to record a full play through of the classic Arcade mode (tower mode) which I did enjoy and I think you will as well
