Another year, another FIFA but this year it is a different story. EA has outdone themselves this year and I believe they knew that Konami was up to something with their PES series. I will start this review with saying this right in the very beginning, FIFA 17 is one of the best soccer games to date. Period. So lets get on with the review and see how they have perfected this series what they can still improve on. Presentation FIFA games have always been great in presenting their teams and players, The switch from the EA Sports’ in-house Ignite engine to DICE’s Frostbite engine results in the huge visual difference. From the distant default perspective most of us play in, you might not notice but there is a massive change. The improved lighting, along with a more natural, less saturated colour balance,  the effects are surprisingly amazing. The soundtrack as well pushes the boundaries as they have really amped it up this time around. The overall look of the game is very similar to previous FIFA games but still they have improved it. Graphics As mentioned previously this is the biggest jump FIFA has ever done. It is beautiful and it is just mind blowing. The Frostbite engine really shines here as well. I believe because Konami was using Metal Gear’s FOX Engine, EA had to do something to get all that attention back. The players have never looked this real. Yes, from far back camera angle it is somewhat similar but the animations are crazy good. Play this game is a feast for the eyes. It just shows that EA isn’t stopping anytime soon and this is the first year they are using the new Frostbite engine, I can’t even imagine what they will do in the coming years. Gamplay The cream of the crop, this is where the game has gotten most improvement. FIFA has added this game mode called “THE JOURNEY” and it is one of the best things FIFA has ever done since its creation. You need to experience this story by yourself, all I would say is that it is Mass Effect, meet FIFA, meet Wii U Party. Yes, I say that because if you remember the mini games we always had in FIFA while the match loads, The Journey kinda sorta is that but with story and amazing characters. Each decision you make, changes the story and the overall experience is just WOW. Now apart from the game play of The Journey, the actual gameplay is flawless as well. Although I still believe that Konami’s PES really gives a good challenge to FIFA, this year they may have beaten PES at its own game. The AI is amazing, even at easy/medium difficulty, the AI plays really well and gives you a good challenge. Audio FIFA 17 shines in this department as well.  The sound and effects are flawless and The Journey’s voice overs are done in a way that you would think you are watching a TV series. Excellent acting and facial expressions alongside music and dramatic background music gives this game the feel it needed for a long time. The game sounds amazing. That is all.
