Final Fantasy 7 Remake isn’t the Game We Wanted

0
For years now we’ve been waiting for Final Fantasy 7 Remake to come out, and now that it’s here it isn’t anything to gloat about. Ya, it’s nice to hear the voices of our characters and see them in amazing action scenes, but it honestly isn’t worth it since it is only a small portion of the game that we know and love. So many characters are missing, and they may send out DLC throughout the year which will expand the game. This will obviously need to be purchased, and they also changed the game a lot. With “visions” of the other version and picturing the storyline from the original. I’m not a fan of this at all. They mentioned this game years and years ago and come out with something where you don’t even get out of Midgar! I want to see Chocobo races, I want to find Vincent, and get all the summons, and upgrade so much more materia. Yet this game is a huge letdown and I don’t even want to play it again. What’s the point of even getting your level up when you can beat Sephiroth so easily and not able to explore the rest of the story. It just gets confusing with all the life force floating around and giving people memories or future glimpses of “what could be”. Final Fantasy 7 Remake With cloud picturing Sephiroth all over the place, and Tifa getting the odd image about her father dying by his hands, I find that there are so many blank spots in the story because they ended up changing a lot of it and not completing it as it should have been. It’s something to talk about to your friends for just a little time. There are about 8 hours of cut scenes, and depending on how much time you put in to leveling up, you might hit about 20 hours max. Let’s give PlayStation the exclusive for the time being, but when it comes to the other systems, it’s not going to do so well in my eyes just at the fact that the game is massively missing so much content. Bring the game to its full glory that it deserves. All the upgrades, all the summons, all the magic so that our heroes can go on and battle through every boss. Not this small storyline that completely changed the game from what it was, and made it one of the best Final Fantasy games there is. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Making all these changes does make the game look better and the fact that we hear them talk, but with an incomplete story and different ending just makes it seem lost. Once you beat it, you don’t have much else to shoot for. You can’t multiply many different materia’s and can only focus on some minor stuff through the “walkthrough” part of the game since there is no real free roam goals to go for. Final Fantasy 7 Remake I was so happy to watch my favorite scenes over and over again, but guess what? It’s not going to happen! They cut the game just after the amazing motorcycle scene and all the rest just goes away. So I want to hear what you thought about the game. All these years and we only get a small piece of it. Look at the clips, watch the summons, watch some of the cut scenes. It makes me want to just play the old version so that I can work on Chocobo races and multiply “Knights of the round” and destroy Sephiroth the way he deserves it. So let us break out the old graphics and buster sword! Let’s hope for something better. Keep gaming everyone!

You don’t speak for us. It isn’t the Remake YOU WANTED. It’s the perfect game for me and apparently a ton of other people.

  • Abriael says:

    We? Who is “We?”

Maybe you should speak for “I” instead, because you surely don’t speak for “we.”

  • Chance hensley says:

So ff7 was one of the first console games I owned, one of the first RPGs I ever played, and to this day is my favorite RPG period. Having said that, I was not expecting much of this game because remakes rarely deliver. However, I was blown away by the game and instantly fell in love with it. I still play the original now and then for nostalgia’s sake, and it will always be my favorite, but ff7r is the perfect expansion of the the story and characters I’ve grown to love, as well as the city of midgar. If it helps think of it as a companion game. Either way they did a great job with it, enjoy it man.

ā€œ So many characters are missing, and they may send out DLC throughout the year which will expand the game. ā€

You have no idea what you are talking about. Iā€™m sorry I clicked on this poor sad excuse of a click article. Ignorant is all I will say. They arenā€™t going to release anything like that for DLC

    • Brandon Greenly says:

Who is this “We” you speak of? Sure as hell isn’t me. Instead of nitpicking at EVERY little thing and maybe take the time to realize that this game is HUGE and quite fun, when you realize what is in store next.

Did you even play the original as a fan or just skim thru it for views and clicks and then went on to play the Remake, only to bitch about how it’s far from the original? You are clearly not a fan and do not speak for the rest of us. Stop making an ass of yourself. It’s completely fine and dandy for YOU to not like it, but do not try to speak for the rest of us who actually do enjoy the game. Not the bottom .01 percent, like you.

      • Jeremiah says:

Coming from someone who really loved ffvii when I was a kid (7/8). And played it probably 5 times all the way through getting everything and beating all additional bosses, getting every materia and maxing them out etc. FF7 Remake is exactly what I wanted, and is a fantastic game.

  • Charles the third says:

The games not done. It’s the first episode.

  • paul brady says:

    What an awful, awful article!

So maybe ‘you’ didn’t enjoy it but ‘I’ along with thousands of others I’ve seen thoroughly did. Bought the original when I was 11 years old and competed it more times than I can remember and this is exactly the remake I wanted.

Releasing it in parts, sure its not ideal but I’m more than happy to wait if the rest is going to be this good. There’s no way they could have released the full game with that much story and content and kept it the same quality. If you want remakrs like that play the 3-4 hour long Resident Evil remakes.

Again I can’t stress enough how much this article and writer sucks.

  • Mike Saint-Jules says:

Too many I, I, I’s. It’s your preference, but you definitely don’t speak for alot of us.

  • Mr Genesis says:

Next time you make an article, Try to admire the expanded universe and world that span 10x the amount Game than you had in the Original

  • Ben Gallagher says:

Oh fuck off dude. This is just not the game you wanted. I personally love it. Also you’re talking like this is it, and not just the first episode of a series.

  • angh says:

I agree this remake is poorly executed and follows last development of SE which is not very compelling. I will rather play the original ff7 again and again before looking at this bs. I might get the ‘definitive version’ with all parts and all dlc for $20 on some sles in few years, but all I see right now is only cach grabber having not much to do with the soul of original, only… nicer gfx.
Oh well, there are a lot of nice jrpg’s coming out, with trails, tales and other fit the gap. FF7 is one of most interesting games in history, remake will be quickly forgotten – as soon as PR machine die off.

    • Aaron Smith says:

There is no DLC. it’s part one of 3. Each game will be as long as the original 40+ hours. So 120 hours of game play spread out over 3 games over a period of about 3 years with a vastly expanded story. Do some research man.

  • Iā€™m Batman!!! says:

Wow I was ABSOLUTELY not feeling this ā€œreviewā€ and once I read the comments I realized it wasnā€™t just me…
    Thank Goodness!!!
How can you write such a lengthy review and be so ignorant to the entire game! The simple fact that this is only part ONE of THREE which damn, EVERYONE in the reviews of your sad review knows. Seems like the only person who doesnā€™t know IS you. And then you exclaim in your title ā€œnot the game WE wantedā€?! Well WE know what the hell is up! It seems like YOU need to dust off your PS1 and remind yourself of the THREE DISK original and play that for a little while…
    Batman out…

  • Dichro says:

I’m an OG FF fan from way back when the series was numbered incorrectly. I’ve had a love hate relationship with FFVII. Loved it until I beat it, then I hated it. That ending blew. That said, years later I appreciated what they had done with it, but still hate the ending. I have been completely enamored with this new release. There is much more weight and consequence with the story in the remake. I’ll happily pluck the money down when the next chapter arrives.

  • Garett Mcdonald says:

While I certainly don’t hate this remake and it does have some great elements I agree with you. In terms of content playing through Midgard again in the original felt like this really missed the mark. The remake is way too linear. Sure even in the original Midgar didn’t offer a lot of freedom but now 50% of the game is sidequest filler that has no real impact to the story.
The battles are pretty cool but at the end of the day if they’d just delivered these visuals and kept the game pretty much the same I’d be over the moon.

  • Gary says:

I donā€™t agree with you sir. Iā€™m 19 hours in and Iā€™m barely in the sewers. Iā€™m taking my time, taking in the game and watching the story unfold. People that paid attention understood that this was going to be a 3-part game, like the original. Rushing to finish it, to publish an article like this, is an insult to us, and all of the people that brought this remake to life.

  • Jeff says:

Its true the game is missing so much bit its still playable don’t call it ff7 remake cause it is not it has nothing to do with the original ff7 it should have been labeled as a new final fantasy game I was expecting a lot more

  • Zach says:

I agree with the author. FF7 is my favorite only only after FF3 and I have been a fan of the series since the NES.

One thing that is funny about replies is how most people are saying how this is part 1 of 3 blah blah blah. FF7 was 4 disc of content. And back then you paid for the full game. This is like paying for Disc 1 and then being ok with waiting a year for the next disc. Laughable.

The game is extremely linear. FF7 broke out of that and gave you an open world feeling once you left Midgar. That was always part of the fun in my opinion. FF3, 7, and 8. Letting you roam the entire game world via chocobo or airship. Sadly, when they release Disc (LC) for the next parts of the game, I would be surprised to see it be any different than it is now.

Yes, great graphics and fun battle system. But truely overrated game to such a long awaited release to an amazing game.

    • Lea Jones says:

      1. Ff7 was a 3 disc game. Not 4.
      3. Ff7 was ljnear til the same point ff7r is.
      4. Ff7r is a full game in it’s own right. It’s 30+ hours of content. Ff7 to midgar was at best 10. 5. You and the writer have a right to thier opinion, as does everyone else. But using such a simple and inclusive word such as ‘we’ has ruined his credibility. A handful of people dislike the game compared to many more who love it. That’s what makes him wrong, his wording not his opinion.

  • This Article Sucks says:

Load. Of. Crap. You don’t speak for all of us.

  • Omen Nocturne says:

“With cloud picturing Sephiroth all over the place, and Tifa getting the odd image about her father dying by his hands,” Man couldn’t even give Cloud a capital C.

  • Lee says:

    This article is garbage.

Both in style and substance. Learn to articulate your thoughts, not rant. You act as if there isn’t more coming, this was not the only installment. And by most standards (and for what had yet to come), this will have actually have beaten the original, largely due to a more complete and well developed plot and character development. I still can’t believe this is actually an article…SMH

  • Ian Clare says:

People like you are the reason I’m losing faith in parts of the first amendment …. They’ve said since the beginning it would essentially be disc 1-1.5

  • Rich says:

What the hell did I just read? Appalling standard of ‘article’ here and I use the term very loosely.

Video journalists aren’t usually the most gifted writers but, even when compared to the typical low-standards, this article is barely coherent…..it’s a structure-less rant!

Not to mention part of it, from what little I could extrapolate, seems to be based on false assumptions. There is no DLC. It was always going to be part 1 of several games.

Also, the game has around 25-38 hours of gameplay, depending on side-quests completed.

A simple google search clarifies these things. Did Paul not even bother to do that?

  • Ricky Mcfadden says:

I would consider the ff7 remake a classic. The only thing that frustrates me are the bosses. Spoiler alert.

I’m on the ghost boss now and I stopped playing for a day that guy is such in asshole

  • Rakurai says:

This is the game we wanted it’s incomplete because it actually is square have said that this games story is way to large to fit as one game and will be released episodically do t quote but I think 4or 5 more releases which will be 8 or 10 Blu ray discs possibly or almost up to a terabyte of data

Next time learn to fact check moron as my comment completely countered your entire article if I was your editor I would fire you as you are clearly a waste of money

  • Mr Michael Henderson says:

Thanks for the spoiler jackass, now I know I right sephiroth! You could have put up a warning, absolute bell end

  • Sack of mostly Water says:

I have not played the new version, I am patient, I wait for games to hit price reductions and that is when I will play it. I will! Play this version as I truly enjoyed the green”get hooked” sample that was released.

Readers, ever think that a writer intentionally attempts to rial up their audience?

  • TheRealEntropy says:

Quite whining. If you wanted a remake sooner maybe you should have tried making it yourself instead of complaining about how it doesnt fit your desire for the game. There’s obviously going to be more to it dlc wise and probably another title, it’s what square enix does now. Milk consumers for all they can, didn’t you pick that up from kingdom hearts?

  • FIRE THIS WRITER says:

What a joke this is. Go play farmville. What a twat.

  • Phil Green says:

Wow I’m sorry but you are a dumbass don’t say we it’s a great game your just sad cuz it’s not the full game. I really enjoy the extra depth in every characters. I can’t wait to play the next one coming out next year!

You sir are a sad sad boomer… Go home have a drink and ponder on your life choices.

    OHH
And thanks for spoiling stuff for the rest that didn’t play it through!
NEXT TIME SAY IT HAS SPOILERS JACKASS!!

  • Obi-jag says:

Youre right people its an awesome game, but the could have given us a whole game instead of a 40+ hour intro, they could have they just want to milk the cow, awesome game love it ,but still incomplete, and at least not what I wanted when they presented it on 2015, and I know they could have done the whole game they just want more out of us fans even though we are the ones buying they’re product for more than 30 years, o well, that’s business

  • Koko says:

This writer isn’t attempting that. This is simply a poorly written opinion piece which has spoilers, and terrible misinformation, which could of been rectified by a quick google search.

It’s a bad article and people are letting them know that.

  • J to the A says:

Hi Everyone, this article is a little harsh but I feel him too, I mean so so many years working on this remake of an already master piece, I like the game a lot but I hope they tune up the rendering of the parts where the camera closes up so many ugly close up to unfinished surrounding, I mean the only pretty flower was the one aerith gave to cloud, so much time spent walking through narrow monsterless pathways I mean random encounters are annoying but boy what a way to stretch a game and the back story of characters like cloud don’t get this detailed till half game down and thats one of this games charms … Oh man don’t get me wrong I love the game hey it’s THE hero’s in HD but… Even though I love the game it is not what I had in mind … Even less when you think about ALL THAT TIME WAITING…. i get the guy but well he should not generalize like that I guess

  • Whatever says:

I would happen to agree. You people are idiots if you do not realize that this Remake is anything other than a huge cash grab . You will get parts of the story for sixty bucks each time they then will “remaster” it for PS5 and put it all on one disk or Download the way it should be…
Not to mention if you are a die hard fan it feels like they just butchered it by changing so much . What they should have called it was Final Fantasy a story BASED off FF7. All i ever wanted was to play FF7 with beefed up up to date graphics with very little changed or added they have ruin a master piece for the sake of profit sounds really ironic in terms of FF7 storyline……

    • Damien Knights says:

according to your logic, they should give you everything for free… because you’re special. Forget why anyone is in business… obviously NOT to make money, but to cater to you. Spend millions upon millions because you want “Free” stuff… lmao…

  • Damien Knights says:

Just wanted to say, “THATS YOUR OPINION!” Don’t lie, and put in your head line, “We wanted?!” The game is a literally a lover letters to fans. It is a work of art, a work of passion! I just don’t get how people can expect them to take a game that was on 3 cd roms, and remake it onto one game. If they want to do it justice they have to do it in installments, either that or wait like ten years for it to be done. Personally, I like knowing there’s more coming. FF7 remake has been something special to me, and GOD help me, I’ve relished every single second of it.
also lets not forget Square is a business… they have to make money, thats the whole point of being in business. People complaining about the price… I spend more on toilet paper. smh…

  • Josh says:

Paul. You suck at writing. You suck at gaming. Honestly, please stop.

The guy wonā€™t even defend his opinion here and has gone silent. Heā€™s a tool.

You guys need an editor who will tell you this is a bad idea.
