Hey Gamers So I’ve been giving some thought about gaming lately, more particularly where we are going in this rabbit hole. I recently bought ($90 cad), played, and beat (95%); Marvel’s Spider-Man. I’ll start by saying that I absolutely loved this game, I found it to be s graphical wonder, a all-start voice casting and most importantly I found it stayed true to the lure of Spider-Man. That being said I thought that the developers at insomniac put together a fantastic game. Which lead me to ask myself a few questions post credits of Spider-Man. Is a Marvel gaming universe possible ? When I say this I think of a perfect fusion between insomniac and marvel studios, a game that builds on established and known characters while building to an over all collective like an avengers game. However we are limited by technology vs capitalism and budget; making certain hero’s in my opinion impossible to make. So let’s break down characters We might want to see in future games (keeping in mind the short term goal is an avengers game): Ironman a fan favorite since the launch of the cinematic universe and has seen multiple games over the years, but no solo titles in recent years. I think Ironman poses a few problems, like most of marvel, he lives in New York, fights all over the world and has a suit of armor that travels via flight. In addition to the character you have the problem of villains. Thor the stormbringer, the god of thunder! One of my favorites and yet another hero that poses difficulties. Thor is only on earth for avengers related incidents otherwise he is going through realms, fighting in space and when Asgard isn’t destroyed, he is there. I can’t imagine how to put a Thor game together; mensurable power, flight, and enemies that range from minions, god killers and universe destroyer. Captain America the first avenger, the Stars and Stripes himself. Probably one of the more easier games to create as Cap mostly resides and conducts business on earth. A range of villains that can transfer nicely to a gaming platform and compelling stories that could be created with the lure already established by captain America. Hulk another hero who has seen the gaming screens a few times before in the past (unsuccessfully). Hulk is another’s super hero that could transfer nicely into gaming; only three problems present itself, location, hulk creates massive destruction as a part of his character design not just circumstances and of course, story. Wolverine probably the most featured superhero in gaming and movies combined. We all know wolverine, his powers, his enemies, but I’m just not sure if a wolverine stand-alone is what is needed right now. Personally, I would like to see a X-Men game (maybe similar to how XCOM was designed) Black Panther with the Wakanda king at his all time high in popularity, he would transfer easily and nicely to gaming (not to mention the timing is right). His powers and transportation similar to a captain america/Spider-Man cross, with tony stark style gadgets in the seeding of Wakanda. Just saying it out loud has me all in.   so I’ve listed six heroes and six standalone games which ultimately tie into an avengers game but I haven’t even begun to think of how that game could look like. I think insomniac has payed out the perfect blueprint as well as how a partnership with a developer and big corporation should look like. A favorable budget, as much time as it takes to put out the best quality. The result ? Favorable fan response, generous profits and a bigger fan base. The dark cloud remains, should all future titles remain Sony exclusive? If I were Sony, I would do what I could to make Sony the superheroes exclusive console. You would see Playstation sales sore and as superheroes are the proverbial cash cow right now; so it stands to say a move like that would devastate competing consoles. So lets open discussion, I would love to hear which super heroes you would like to see make an honest attempt at a superb delivery of their story ? Not just who but why and who do you guys think is impossible to make the leap to gaming and if that is the case is an avengers game even possible ? (I know there is a avengers game in development but honestly I don’t have a good feeling about that)
