During GDC, Rocket League developer Psyonix announced that their indie mega blockbuster game Rocket League will be getting cross-platform multiplayer option. This made fans very happy, specially when they announced not only Xbox One owners can go against PC player but even PlayStation 4 racers. Then came the question of how can it be done and when will it done? Xbox One gave out an open letter that they are more than willing to do cross-platform multiplayer with other systems and PC. Sony on the other hand responded with a very cold shoulder by saying “We’re always open to stuff like that, it’s all about what the developers and publishers want to do. They get in touch with us and handle everything on a case by case basis.” Psyonix recently announced that Xbox One has signed all the paper work for this to become a reality but there is still no news from Sony. Once Sony says “Yes”, it will take ONE BUSINESS DAY for them to implement this mind blowing feature into our lives. Next Level Gaming will update you as soon as this story develops as we are all waiting to hear what will Sony be saying regarding this as the ball is clearly in their court. My take on it? Ever since I bought my very first online game “Return to Castle Wolfenstein” for the original Xbox back in 2003, I have had dreams about this. PlayStation players going up against Xbox players. Just imagine in the pre-game lobby, you can see gamertags highlighted in green or blue, showcasing which players are on which system. Its really a game changer, no more friends have to worry about which system they get Call of Duty or The Division on, we all play together and isn’t that gaming is all about? Bringing every one together to have unforgettable moments? Well I really hope Sony signs off the paper work too so I can love them more, but if they don’t or stretch this till 2044, I will have a very dark place in my heart for them.
