This morning, Microsoft officials announced their plan to acquire of Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks. Under the terms of the agreement, this acquisition will come at the cost of $7.5 Billion in cash.
At Bethesda, the Vice President of PR and Marketing, Pete Hines, verified this announcement and expressed excitement to work with Microsoft further, citing years of working with Microsoft since Morrowind was launched on the original Xbox. It has been said that Bethesda’s structure and leadership will remain in place.
The planned acquisition includes the following studios along with Bethesda Softworks: Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, Zenimax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios.
Microsoft expects the
acquisition to close during the second half of the 2021 fiscal year.
