Resident Evil Delivers – Haunting Review!

Resident Evil Delivers – Haunting Review!

Survival Horror is back! We live in a world where we get a Resident Evil game once every 4 or 5 years or something which is a very good thing cause then we crave the game even more. The bad thing is we weren’t very happy when Resident Evil 6 arrived so a lot of fans were worried about RE7 but rest assure, Capcom worked extra hard on this sequel to get the love back that they lost in 2012. STORY RE7 storyline is completely different this time around from previous games, even the characters are new and it actually feels like it’s a new franchise all together. Don’t get me wrong, it is not a bad story, but it is different. Although one can say the main story is kind of taken from the Silent Hill games where a letter of a passed away wife is received by the protagonist and he goes on for a search as to what is going on. Could have been more original but we are not complaining.

Meet the crazy family that’ll be hosting tonight.

GRAPHICS This is where the game shines, major improvement over all and that is mainly because the game changed its perspective completely. The game was a 3rd person survival horror game and now it has entered the 1st person genre. The graphics are very realistic with almost photo realistic. It may look a little rough in the beginning when you are in the outdoor area with sunlight but as the game takes you in and gets darker, the graphics shine. Character themselves are very well done as well, some stuff may look very plastic but there is a reason behind it when you are done with the game. Over all the game is gorgeous and the lighting works just fine to scare the shit out of you.

The lighting and over all look is amazing.

GAMEPLAY Another big change for the series, but it is survival horror at its finest. The series have gone back to its root what made the RE series so much fun and scary. The game has a lot of chills and actually acts like a survival game. Limited ammo, limited health keeps you at the edge of the seat at all times. The game could have been more fun if there were more enemies or zombies in the game. The gameplay could have been more frantic and fun but because Capcom took a different approach, there is limited action in the game. This helps as well cause in Resident Evil 6 there was only action and no horror, so the team took a full 180 and made this game a full on survival heaven. Also it does seem like they have taken a lot of pointers from the Kojima Cancelled Game – Silent Hills.

Gameplay is up close and personal and will disturb you.

SOUND This is where the game shines beyond measures. The heart of the game is always great sound and Capcom has nailed this section. Play this game with a decent paid of headphones and you will be shitting your pants in no time. The sudden screams and breathing will make you want to not go any further, but you will enjoy this game so much just because of its sheer excellence in sound tech. Cheesy voice overs are gone as well as this game changes the way characters talk and interact. Great job done in voice acting for the first time in RE history.

Graphics are insane but the sound is perfect.

PRESENTATION The overall feel of the game is great but it does seem this isn’t a Resident Evil game. The feel of the game is great, it’s a horror game, it’s a survival game and yes the inventory system works like RE games as well but because the RE classic characters are missing, the feel of the game is changing now. The menu system is simple and clean and the save files work the same way as well so the game tries to be RE in spite of these changes. The game also has less Japanese feel to it but that is a good thing, as mentioned, even the voice overs are done well now. So this doesn’t feel like an RE game maybe that is a good thing?
