Road Rage Review

Road Rage Review

An attempt to recreate an epic franchise falls flat on its face. Road Rage when we first saw the trailer got a lot of us excited because it brought us back to our childhood days when we played Road Rash, a once epic biker game where you beat your opponents with weapons to win the race.   [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pTgJ9mwrZ4[/embedyt]   Fast forward to 2017 with Maximum Games and Road Rage and there is not much to say except this was a disappointing journey. Road Rage falls flat on so many levels and with such a great concept the game feels rushed and just poorly designed.  After a short narrative reading on how the world has gone to shit and all the bikers rule the land you are literally just dropped in action…. well I wouldn’t say action but more along the lines of WTF am I playing. The driving in Road Rage is probably the worst feature in this game, your character’s body doesn’t even move as it sits on the bike like someone who has been turned into stone by Medusa. Aside from the poor driving, the game’s physics is just horrible. I often found myself ghosting through light poles or cars but instantly be taken down by the long grass. Yes, the long grass!. It was all over the place with the hit detection as I once went full speed into a car only to be tossed a few feet back into the race when clearly my body and bike should have exploded. The fighting I thought would have made up for the poor driving but I was wrong in thinking that. On more than one occasion I would swing at a rival biker and hit him a few times only to watch him race off like nothing happened. Later in the race, I would get hit by a phantom weapon that was swung 10 feet in front of me and instantly get thrown off my bike. I would often find myself racing below the roadway as the game would glitch out and I would have to restart the mission. This issue happened a few times while playing in a time trial race. There are a few mission types whether it’s a time trial, stunt mission or takedown mission they all play the same and isn’t a fun journey at all. There is no real replay value in this game at all because it’s just a stale game. Missions were always the same boring feeling and you just get thrown into them during the story once all the texting messaging would stop during story cut scenes and whatnot. The graphics are so dated that I thought I was playing something on the PS1 and with all the texture fails and lighting issues there is no real win here on the graphics. Half the time you are playing landscapes or buildings don’t fully fixture in until you literally drive into them. This game seems to have been slapped together with no real directions as to what and where this game direction should be.   Overall the concept for Road Rage is shades of Road Rash that was once a fantastic game back in the day. A next-generation version done properly could make for an exciting game down the road. Road Rage is flawed in so many ways and the game is not good at all. Poor graphics lead nothing to desire, driving has never felt so horrible and the story is nothing to cheer about. For what its worth Maximum Games have a great concept here but need to seriously head back to the drawing board and take its time working on something that could be great down the road.   Cheers Folks!
