ROCCAT’s Vulcan Pro Review

ROCCAT’s Vulcan Pro Review

1

ROCCAT’s new Vulcan Pro Gaming Keyboard has placed itself amongst some of the toughest competition in the market, with a whopping $250 price tag. Though the price may reflect high quality, does the Vulcan Pro live up to such a bank-busting retail fee? And is their mechanical optical switch design enough to justify a change in provider for your video game needs? Yes, it most certainly is.

Functionality

The Vulcan Pro is a gaming keyboard through and through. And though it certainly doubles as an extremely comfortable typing keyboard, with slightly curved keys and a solid, pressured feel, the Vulcan excels at providing extremely responsive feedback using its new optical switches. The feature is simple, and similar to the relatively new ROCCAT Burst Gaming Mouse. When a key is struck, a beam of light is interrupted, sending a speed of light signal to the computer. A few high end keyboard manufacturers have been implementing this feature and with great affect, and its a smart idea for ROCCAT to follow suit. Similarly, the Vulcan Pro’s “game mode” switch helps to further your game driven desires, by deactivating the windows key and activating the 6 Macro keys found the right of the backspace. All in all, the Vulcan Pro is a responsive, and gaming fueled masterpiece.

Design

There’s no doubt that the Vulcan Pro is one of the best looking keyboards on the market. Sleek, solid, and colorful beyond anything other manufacturers have come out with recently. The brushed metal back plate, adds a much needed variant to the matte black keys, which sit atop the brilliantly lit RGB optical switches underneath. Though the non tournament edition (TKL) is a little wide, it carries itself well, and adds some serious class and weight to any gaming setup. On the top right of the keyboard is a simple, but fitting knob that can easily be switched from volume, to fx (lighting on the keyboard).

Lastly, by using ROCCAT’s Swarm software, my Vulcan Pro Keyboard, Burst Pro Gaming Mouse, and ELO Wired Gaming Headset can share color schemes, rolling through the rainbow in perfect harmony. Now all I need is a desktop background that follows suit.

Overall (TLDR)

So, as to the question of whether or not the Vulcan Pro Gaming Keyboard is worth your hard earned dollars, the answer is a general yes. The only thing more beautiful than its sleek design and powerful color gradients is its responsiveness to my commands. And at the end of the day, that’s all that really matters to me.
