An online open world racing game spanning across the USA. and was a first of its kind requiring online connectivity at all times. It had its fair share of technical bugs but when it worked the game showed great potential.  Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Just released the sequel, this June, The Crew 2… This sequel brings a whole new set of features and options for the player. An all new scaled down recreation of USA’s map with way more detail than the first. Now with free roam, 4 different play styles, and tons of collectibles and mini games. This time around you’ll have many options to complete races in basically whatever order you want.   You start the game as an upcoming racer. You get to pick your appearance from a bunch of different presets that say tiny quotes beside each. After that the game throws you right into the tutorial. The player starts the race with a nice Porsche, then the map bends like inception and the game shows you the quick swapping mechanics. You quickly switch from a car to a speed boat, then eventually into a plane. The player can switch vehicles at any point during free roam and in some cases you need specific vehicles to get to certain places on the map. There’s collectibles and mini games like taking photos of wildlife and Ultimate road challenge bingo. After the tutorial is over, you’ll be shown the map with 4 different disciplines. Street race, Off-road Race, Boat racing, and Plane racing. Each with different vehicles you can unlock in future races. A huge variety of vehicles to choose from. Super cars, muscle cars, motorcycles, trucks, monster trucks, boats, wave runners and planes like the mustang and the Spitfire prop planes. The main objective in The Crew 2 is to gain followers. The more followers you have the more credit you gain. Gain followers by doing stunts, completing races, and doing challenges. I cant help but feel the familiarity of other Ubisoft free roam elements in this game. The player is given a map and as you complete races, you unlock different activities in different areas of the map which is allowing you to see the points of interest in the map. Fly through the Grand Canyon or go to Vegas.   [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmzbHp7MUhk[/embedyt]   The environments are great to look at.  With such a big map there is a great fast travel system. You can explore a lot faster without commuting across a country. Seamlessly change from car to a plane, fly over water and change into a boat, jump off a waterfall and back in to a plane. There’s so many ways to enjoy motoring around. Each vehicle has its own physics, so each vehicles drives/fly a bit differently. Find your favourites and customize your home.  Each vehicle is customizable too. From color, liveries, visual parts and performance parts. Make any vehicle your own.     This game got major upgrades from the last game. Since there’s flying Ivory Tower had to increase draw distances, and included details for clouds and vegetation in the environment. Many objects are breakable even in a plane. Some Objects you would think take you out when hit but then you plow through like nothing. One thing that took me out of the game was the lack of damage to vehicles. The solid objects you do hit seem to just stop you or bounce off leaving minor scratching but no big wrecks. The water effects look good for the most part. water is basically always flat, even on free roam. Boats leave little to no wake visually but drive through it and it can send you way off course.  Basically  good splashing mechanics.  Low altitude flying over water is pretty cool and something to try for only the best pilots like myself.     The Crew 2 Came out on June 29 On Xbox one, PS4 and PC. Prices may vary depending on retailer but the general brand new price for the standard edition is $79.99. There are more expensive versions but I don’t think they are worth paying almost 100$ just for a couple of cars or skins. Overall The Crew 2 is a leap in the right direction for this franchise and a fun game to play with or without friends. The variations of vehicles is a great addition from driving sports care to flying in planes there is some fun for everyone with this game. It does lack some key features like full damage to vehicles and some minor bugs but overall the game is fun and deserves a play through.
