The Last of Us Remake Reportedly Coming

The Last of Us Remake Reportedly Coming

2

Sony has reportedly green-lit a remake of 2013’s The Last of Us by way of Visual Arts Service Group, a smaller studio that previously assisted development on other PlayStation Studios titles.

The report comes by way of Bloomberg, and indicates that the project was originally shelved when the developer ran into budget problems, with the studio subsequently moved over to assist with the development of The Last of Us 2. Now that the sequel’s production has been finished, Sony has migrated Naughty Dog staff over to Visual Arts Service Group to provide the needed support to finish the project. Now that Naughty Dog developers are working on the title, the report indicates that the remake is now considered one of the studio’s next projects.

Perhaps more surprising, the Bloomberg report also indicates that Sony has rejected Bend Studio’s pitch for Days Gone 2 after the release of the original in 2019. In a secondary report corroborated by Eurogamer, after the rejection of Days Gone 2, many Bend employees were moved over to assist on the development of other Sony titles, with the studio potentially working on a new Uncharted game. There is no confirmation whether this Uncharted project is still in development with Bend, however it could provide insight into what the studio has been working on since Days Gone.

From a young age I've loved video games and the power they possess in bringing different kinds of people together. I have forged many good friendships through this medium that would not exist without it. I love experiencing a new genre for the first time and finding out it resonates with me. Also, Conker's Bad Fur Day is one of the greatest games of all time. Fight me.
