Video Game Stores May Close

Video Game Stores May Close

When video game stores came out, everyone was so excited because they would always have lots of specific games in stock. But in the past number of years, it seems that people would rather have digital copies rather than hard copies due to the fact that they can re-download the game at anytime if they choose to delete it for more space on their hard drives. It seems to be more a convenience thing because some people pay lots of money for the hard copy only to trade it in and get very little back for it in return. I used to let my games pile up and go trade them in at once when I realized that I won’t be playing them only to regret it later down the road because more people I play with would get it at a cheap cost, so I would end up buying the game again. The first Destiny was a perfect example. I would play it for a bit, trade it in only to have my close friends get it so that we can play together. Now if I own the digital copy I could of just downloaded it again at no extra cost, and not worry about having to go out to a store to get the disk while it is on sale. In the end I threw out the disk because no stores would take it because they knew it would just sit on their shelves collecting dust, and I may have only gotten $0.30 for it. With video game stores losing out on physical copies they turned to the toys and accessories which always grabs peoples attention especially when they are hard to find items. Lets be honest though, you can always find them online and possibly pay less. Ordering statues of your favourite anime characters, or clothes with game symbols on them. They need to pick up the amount of money they are losing which could be costly. Funko Pop characters are huge! I have a nice collection and find them at a nice cost. It’s a shame that you can get them mostly everywhere now. Some stores even offer “exclusive” characters at their locations. How long can things like that last? People do get out of their houses and want their space in their home to be fun and exciting, packed with lots of things that people can look at and discuss. I don’t think it will last long, stores will start packing up and then it will just be a hand full around the area that you live, and some might be a decent drive away. Look at how comic book stores went. They used to be all over the place and now they are far and few between. Video game stores are going the same way. Things will slowly go downhill and stores will close, which means that you will just have to look for random items somewhere else. Like Comicon, or  Fan Expo’s. They always have the good stuff! So here’s what I’m saying. Stores are going to close, some may remain open so that there is still places to buy the random things you can find, or even to get a specific game with a pre-order bonus which we all know are getting worse and worse, but don’t get me started on that. I want to know what you think, is it worth the stores to stay open? Or just close them and move most games to just a strict digital platform? None if this “streaming” games because as we can tell from Stadia, it is not worth it because it just doesn’t work.   Tell me what you want with new systems and games coming out. Keep on gaming!
