Top 5 Highest Grossing Video Games Franchises

When video game creators invest their time and companies money they have one wish in mind and that is to sell millions of copies and become the best video game franchise known in the industry. The games on this top 5 list of all time grossing franchises did just that and will continue to grow in the gaming industry for years to come.   #5 Grand Theft Auto- 250 Million + Copies Sold     One of the greatest sandbox video game franchises in my eyes and I was actually shocked at the numbers of titles sold as I thought GTA would have been higher on this list. Grand Theft Auto took us by surprise back in 1997 and fast forward to its recent title GTA V you can see how dominate this game is in the industry. Some of my favorite gaming moments are playing through these GTA titles.   #4 Call of Duty- 250 Million + Copies Sold     Well you don’t have a top 5 without including Call of Duty on your list. This franchise has taken over the first person shooter genre for years. The franchise has been around since 2003 and yearly releases have helped its number sky-rocket and make it on the top 5 list. Although recent titles have set the franchise back the latest Call of Duty game COD WWII releasing in a few months will help it get back on track.   #3 Pokemon- 290 Million + Copies Sold     Pokemon has been a household name in the gaming industry when busting out in 1996 with Pokemon Red and Blue. Everyone knows its beloved main character Pikachu. This series has quite a few titles incorporated and it will continue to grow for years to come. We have seen some amazing changes in the franchise over the years but none better than Pokemon Go where you can use your cellphone or tablet to catch Pokemon in real-time.   #2 Sonic The Hedgehog- 350 Million + Copies Sold     Sonic The Hedgehog was one of my favorites growing up and it looks like I wasn’t the only one. 350 million estimated to date copies sold were from its hay day for sure because recent titles in the franchise weren’t that successful but this name will live on forever in the gaming world. The franchise has been around since the early 90s so that is why you have such a high number of copies sold but Sonic is a fantastic franchise and was a direct competitor to Nintendo’s Mario.   #1 Super Mario- 575 Million + Copies Sold     I am sure no one is surprised that Super Mario is at #1. When Shigeru Miyamoto’s introduced us to Mario while along side Donkey Kong back in early 1981 he has become the biggest video game icon of all time. Nintendo’s golden boy as I like to call him because Nintendo wouldn’t be where they are today if it wasn’t for this game franchise and we all know that.  Mario has dominated in every aspect of gaming and has released many different titles to go with it. Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Paper Mario just to name a few. Know one will ever forget the name Mario in the game industry and this franchise will continue to dominate for years to come.   Cheers Folks!
