Destiny 2’s ‘State of the Game’ Promises Major Changes for the Franchise’s Future

Bungie’s recent State of the Game for Destiny 2 promises a new outlook on the title and future of the franchise.

There’s a lot to unpack in the article by Destiny 2‘s Assistant Game Developer Joe Blackburn, but the key points are as follows:

  • Starting in Season 14, infusion gear caps will no longer be added into the game. Anything that has not already reached the infusion cap at the start of Season 13 (Season of the Chosen) will still be viable to take into future Destiny content. Sunsetting has been sunset.
  • Power grind and caps are also changing starting next season. Previously, players would have to grind 50 levels before playing the new pinnacle content. Starting in Season 14, Power will only increase by intervals of 10, meaning players who are currently at the hard power cap will be ready to jump into pinnacle content right away. Bungie will be addressing the overall level issues at a later date.
  • Stasis Titan and Hunter in PvP will be getting addressed, along with Light Subclasses being reworked in the future to make them a more viable option in PvP.
  • Trials of Osiris will be receiving a rework in a future season to be more friendly to solo players and have a better reward structure.
  • Transmogrification will be coming in Season 14, with Ada-1 returning to the Tower as a vendor. Shaders will also be a permanent unlock going forward, meaning players no longer have to manage inventory on Shaders.
  • Crossplay will be introduced in Season 15. PC and console players will only be matched together in the Crucible if PC players invite console players.

There is a lot more to unpack in the article, so feel free to give it a read. If Bungie is able to fulfill the promises made in this State of the Game, the future of Destiny 2 is bright.
