Google changes the gaming industry with their new service

Google might have changed the gaming industry with its brand new game streaming platform: Stadia. Cloud gaming has always received a bad reputation all because of its ill-fated problems: Audio delays, Graphical errors, and lastly, Lag-input. All of these problems exist because of slow internet. Google Stadia is here to solve the problem, as it aims for High fidelity-graphics in a low latency network and with little-to-no-hardware required. How crazy is that?! Google first showcase its new service running Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey using a Chromebook; Pixel 3 XL; a low-end PC; tablet, and lastly a TV with Chrome Cast. This here, will always forever have an impact with the gaming industry starting now. No more hardware limitations; no more creative limitations with game devs, and finally, no more expensive hardware. This was made possible with their beefed up Data centre with amazing hardware equipped to it. Here are the specs list:
  • CPU: Custom 2.7GHz hyper-threaded x86 CPU with AVX2 SIMD and 9.5MB L2+L3 cache
  • GPU: Custom AMD GPU with HBM2 memory and 56 compute units, capable of 10.7 teraflops
  • Memory: 16GB of RAM with up to 484GB/s of performance
  • SSD cloud storage

AC: Odyssey running perfectly in HD on a Pixel 3 XL

They also mentioned that their data centre will grow overtime, so who knows how powerful Stadia will be in the future. “But what about the internet speed?” Right after announcing Stadia in GDC 2019, Google then release the information what internet requirements are needed to use the streaming service. Phil Harrison said that the service will need around 25mbps for 1080p with 60fps, and 30mbps for 4k. Personally, I don’t think that Stadia is asking for a lot, most people have access up to 25mbps nowadays. But, my only question is how well it’ll do in real life situation, as Stadia was running 200mbps during its first impression at GDC 2019. Now that you have all the juicy details about the specs and internet speed that you need, let’s talk about the amazing features that Google’s Stadia will provide. State Share is one of the biggest one, as it changes how one’s moment can be shared. During the presentation, Dylan Cuthbert, President/Managing Director of Q-games, the brains behind PixelJunk series and Nom Nom Galaxy mentions that developers will be able to turn in game points like a weblink. If somebody clicks the weblink, that person will then be sent at the very same moment where the action left off. The social aspect of this is great, as everyone can share amazing moments, and perhaps frustrating moments. We are also introduce to Crowd Play. This feature works well for streamers who’s playing a multiplayer game, with just a click of a button, you can now play with your favourite streamer right away. If there is a lot of players wanting to join, you will be placed in a lobby. Google has no statement yet with how they’ll tolerate toxicity and harassment. We all know there will be a lot of that. So, what do you guys think so far? Will it change the gaming industry as a whole, and will it destroy Sony and Microsoft?
