This past Thursday, Sony shared 15 minutes of beautiful gameplay from the upcoming Horizon 2: Forbidden West.

Showcased during a 20 minute State of Play, the extended gameplay demo of the upcoming game presented a closer look at how the title is evolving as a sequel. The first thing players will notice are the new and improved biomes. As the demo takes place in the remains of San Fransisco, over 1000 years after the global catastrophe detailed in the first game, Aloy must rescue her loyal friend Erend, as he is captured and held hostage by a clan of local raiders.

The 15 minutes of footage shows audiences Aloy navigating this new environment via stealth and combat, as she tackles raiders and a new overridden enemy. To combat these new environments and enemies, players will find themselves utilizing a variety of new weaponry and traversal abilities. For example, Aloy will be able to equip a diving mask that allows her to remain submerged underwater indefinitely. This will allow players to explore even more of these new environments and encounter new, never-before-seen threats along the way.

In addition to underwater exploration, Aloy now has access to a new type of focus mode, allowing her to see easy-to-grip obstacles throughout the world. This will allow for more verticality within exploration and combat. Once players have climbed to their hearts content and need a fast route down, the new glider should allow for safe passage as Aloy descends back down to earth. The glider will also allow for more opportunities to get the upper hand in combat, providing players with yet another tool in this open world playground.

No release date has been announced yet for the title, however Guerrilla Games promises more information to come soon. What are your thoughts on the footage shown for Horizon 2: Forbidden West? Be sure to join the conversation on our socials and let us know!

From a young age I've loved video games and the power they possess in bringing different kinds of people together. I have forged many good friendships through this medium that would not exist without it. I love experiencing a new genre for the first time and finding out it resonates with me. Also, Conker's Bad Fur Day is one of the greatest games of all time. Fight me.
