While fans continue to wait for any major news on Metroid Prime 4, Nintendo has brought the series back with a new 2D title coming later this year. Metroid Dread is the first brand new 2D Metroid since Metroid Fusion for the GBA and will follow Samus as she explores a mysterious new planet while being hunted by the ominous E.M.M.I. Samus has some new tools up her suit to deal with these threats such as the Omega Blaster and a slide maneuver for narrow escapes.

Nintendo has also announced a special edition of the title that will come with extra collectables. These include a steelbook, art cards and an artbook. Amiibos for Samus and E.M.M.I will also be released alongside the game. Metroid Dread and the amiibos will sneak onto Nintendo Switch October 8th.
