Sony has announced it is hiking the price of PlayStation Plus one month from today. The timing is set to go up as the company enters the crucial holiday season.

Prices are going up by $20 for annual memberships to $69.99 CAD. This amounts to a 20 percent price hike for the service, which hasn’t seen an increase since its launch in June 2010.

Three-month memberships are increasing from $17.99 to $29.00 (39 percent) and monthly memberships changing to $11.99 for a 30-day subscription. Sony suggests that the price increase brings membership fees into alignment with “current market conditions.” If your service expires after the September 22 price jump, you’ll be assessed the new fee amount when your membership renews. My take on it?  Price hike is never a good thing, people get mad and upset and question the service even more but the world we live in, this is very normal. I see Bell and Rogers prices going up on a yearly basis. Even Bank plans increase every 10 months. PS PLUS is being increased after 6 years, so it isn’t that big of a deal but Sony really needs to step their game up. For the past few months their games has not been the best and if they want the fan base to stay steady they better start giving better games for FREE. I am just going to buy the current PS Plus cards before Sept 22nd and be good till 2020. I don’t mind the price hike, I love my Plus and in my opinion it is still worth every penny but the Internet would need more convincing.
