Though the new
Elo 7.1 USB Surround Sound Gaming Headset by ROCCAT is not without flaws, for the price, it’s one of the best headphones currently on the market. At a manufacturer suggested retail
price of $69.99, the
Elo 7.1 not only offers but delivers superior sound, unparalleled comfort and an inspirational aesthetic, more than any other headset at that price point. ROCCAT, recently acquired by Turtle Beach, has successfully combined its award-winning designs and innovations with Turtle Beach’s unrivaled gaming audio expertise and audio technologies. The Elo 7.1 USB Headset is part of the new Elo series, including two other impressive Headsets.
Sound Quality
As mentioned previously, the 7.1 USB isn’t perfect. Though the sound quality is top-notch for the price point, there are most certainly other headsets on the market with even better sound. That being said, ROCCAT’s new Elo 7.1 hits most of the marks in this supremely important category. Is it possible to differentiate the number of enemy footsteps heading your way? Check. Can you blast music while still hearing specific audio alert cues in your favourite game? Check. The quality is undoubtedly there; however, don’t assume the Elo 7.1 will suit your needs for something as intensive as audio engineering.
Along with exceptional sound input, the 7.1 also provides some inspired output as well. The TruSpeak microphone allows for outstanding communication, providing a natural, almost real-life quality to your voice. Not only is the microphone bendable, but it can also be detached too, adding even more versatility to your gaming experience. Lastly, the only real concern to be found within the 7.1 is the slight but constant scratch one might hear as the USB cable slithers around while gaming. Though it may be faint, some of the more irritable of us might find a reason to upgrade to the wireless model, dubbed Elo Air.
Comfort Over Time
For most of us, when choosing a new headset, real long term comfort is at the top of the list of needs over wants. The Elo 7.1 boasts a self-adjusting metal headband and rotating earcup hinges, which do create a weightless and extremely comfortable fit. Regardless of time, the Elo 7.1 remains so comfortable that you may even forget you’re wearing them. It becomes an extension of your head, as does a mouse and keyboard or controller might for your hands. As a gamer who wears glasses, I also find the ProSpecs Glasses Relief System to be a massive plus. The foam in the section in which the glasses rest is softer, helping to relieve a snug headset’s constant pressure.
A Clean and Subtle Look
ROCCAT, known for their beautiful and inspiring designs, has certainly outdone themselves with this new Elo series. It’s clean, minimal, and fits nicely with a wide range of similar aesthetically pleasing designs. The AIMO Intelligent Lighting Engine can sync up to other AIMO compatible devices, creating a smooth blend of light sequences on your rig. There’s certainly something remarkable about having multiple devices glow through the spectrum as if your setup is breathing.
All In All
At the end of the day, the Elo 7.1 USB Gaming Headset is one of the best out there, considering such an affordable price. With fantastic sound quality (both input and output), true comfort for extended hours of gaming, and a sleek, clean and stylistic look, you really shouldn’t be investing your money elsewhere.
