The Burnout franchise has a remaster but that’s about it.  Wreckfest is a brand new game featuring the destruction derby. Published by THQ Nordic in Austria and developed by Bugbear Entertainment. (the makers of FlatOut 1 and 2). This game was first early access on steam but now is a full game on PC which has future plans of coming to consoles PS4 and Xbox One.

Wreckfest is a simple racing game at first. But once you put in some time and mess with the tuning of your cars, you’ll quickly notice you need a different build for each type of race. This game has no story but it does have a career mode for single player. The career is filled with different races, tournaments and derby’s. Each event earns you stars, you need these stars to unlock more events and races. Depending on whether you place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd you’ll also earn cash rewards. You need money to upgrade and buy new cars. In the beginning you get a few starter cars for free, a lawnmower and a decent car. But they only take you so far as there is class specific events. Some events are exclusive to compact cars, trucks, lawnmowers, even Harvesters and each vehicle handles and sounds different as you drive across different surfaces. From tarmac, to loose dirt, to mud. There is so much variety. You can access your garage at any time. In career or main menu your cars and upgrades collect as you play and you can take them online. You will spend most of your time in the garage tweaking your favourite rides. The upgrades go deep. Upgrade your engine, air filter, fuel system, cam shaft, pistons and more. 11 different parts to upgrade from stock, street, sport all the way up to racing parts. from paint jobs to gear ratios, suspension, differential and brake balance. Build up your garage to be a wrecking machine. Start in the Juniors division and work your way up to world master. There are 5 divisions to complete in career mode.

The crashes in wreckfest look amazing. it reminds me of Motor Storm for PS3. Pieces fly off, cars fall apart and catch fire when you eventually wreck. Tire walls and boundaries get destroyed if you drive through them. A lot of the environment is destructive. If you ever get tired of career mode you can always make a custom event. Choose from 18 tracks with 4 arena maps. Each track has a different layout. The Player can choose which direction to drive on the track. choose weather and time of day and set the rules like laps or a time limit. In arena mode there’s the old school destruction derby. this mode has last man standing, deathmatch and team deathmatch. Change the AI difficulty, set the damage to default or realistic. You can set your events to up to 23 opponents. Even change your car controls further in the settings for shifting, abs, traction control and stability. Whatever your set up is this game plays very well. Online is easy with a server browser and a good-sized community, No problem finding a game.

Wreckfest is a fantastic game and If you enjoyed the Flatout series or Burnout. I highly recommend this game. Wreckfest is also coming to consoles,PS4 and Xbox One on a later date TBA. Overall Wreckfest is an enjoyable game full of mayhem!
